The argument
Terms of essence, generation, coequality, and person developed through controversy and council. Once attached to imperial and ecclesial authority, the formula no longer functioned merely as interpretation. It sorted orthodox from heretic and could control office, communion, burial, publication, and safety.
Why it matters
Doctrine became mark-like: belief moved from the mind into recognized social and economic participation.
What this teaching does not claim
The history is complex and continued after 325. The argument concerns the trajectory and governing function, not a myth that one meeting instantly created the entire later system.
